Candidates that sat the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) can now recheck their results via the result checker portal, the West African Examination Council has announced.
The Council disclosed this a few hours after releasing the revised results of the WASSCE for school candidates.
In a statement posted on its X (formerly twitter) handle, WAEC wrote: “The result portal is up again, candidates can now access, check and recheck their results for the WASSCE (SC), 2025.
“Once again, we sincerely apologise for the mishap and appreciate your understanding and support.”
WAEC bows to pressure
The Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, Amos Dangut, had on Monday, 4 August, announced that only 38.32 per cent of the 1,969,313 candidates that sat the examination secured credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
The announcement drew criticism from candidates, parents, educationists and other concerned Nigerians, who questioned the integrity of the examination. Many also called for a review of the results, particularly over the poor performance recorded in Engish Language.
Following the backlash, WAEC on Wednesday recalled the earlier released results, saying, it had identified glitches in the processes that led to their compilation and, as a result, shut down the result checker portal.
A statement by the Council’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the subjects affected were those it “serialised,” namely Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
However, on Friday, 8 August, the Council announced the release of the revised results of the 2025 WASSCE, indicating a 24.64 per cent increase from the earlier 38.32 percent in the number of candidates who secured credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Mr Dangut explained that after reviewing the process, the new statistics show that a total of 1,239,884 of the 1,969,313 candidates, representing 62.96 per cent, secured credits in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
To gain admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, candidates must obtain credit in five relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
