As Nigeria celebrates its 65th anniversary on Oct. 1, Good Governance Africa – Nigeria (GGA-Nigeria) is set to host a webinar focused on strengthening civic engagements to promote accountability and good governance in the country.
The discussion themed: “Nigeria @ 65: Strengthening Civic Engagements for Enhanced Accountability” aims to highlight the crucial role of civil society organisations (CSOs) and citizen action groups in advocating for transparency and accountability.

According to GGA Executive Director, Dr. Ola Bello, the webinar will explore various initiatives, platforms, and tools being developed by CSOs and citizen groups to enhance accountability and governance in Nigeria.
“Over the years, CSOs and citizen groups have been instrumental in advocating for transparency and accountability, often filling the gaps left by government institutions. While corruption erodes trust and stifles progress, CSOs play a crucial role in building a more accountable and transparent system that serves the needs of all Nigerians,” Dr. Bello said.
“We will be having stakeholders who are effectively tracking and overseeing public expenditure and ensuring that funds are allocated efficiently towards essential services and infrastructure,” he added.
GGA’s expected panellists with diverse perspectives and experiences includes Mr. Joseph Amenaghawon, Head, CivicHive, BudgIT Foundation’s Innovation Centre; Ms. Ufuoma Nnamdi-Udeh, Programmes Lead, Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria; Mr. Oluwaseyi Oyetunbi, Founder, GovernMend Nigeria; and Mrs. Busola Ajibola, Deputy Director, Centre for Journalism Innovation & Development (CJID).

The panellists will also address how CSOs can leverage technology to enhance civic engagement processes, how collaboration and partnerships between CSOs can promote transparency and accountability, and further empower citizens through education on how their rights and responsibilities can promote active participation in governance.
