The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has officially granted Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun state, a full operational license to Campus Radio, 99.7 MHz.
According to a statement signed by the polytechnic’s spokesperson, Yemi Ajibola, the approval followed the successful completion of the station’s test transmission in compliance with the provisions of the NBC Act, Cap. N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
The approval, contained in a letter dated 3 February, was signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Francisca Aiyetan, and addressed to MAPOLY Rector, Dr Koye Jolaoso.
The letter stated that the approval was a result of the Rector’s efforts to resuscitate the polytechnic’s campus radio station and served as an attestation to the institution’s rebranding agenda.
Ajibola noted that this development would equip students with the practical skills to make them functional and competitive in the industry.
The letter from NBC reads, “I am directed to convey the approval of the National Broadcasting Commission to your request to commence full transmission on your Campus FM Radio Station, MAPOLY 99.7MHz, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“This is based on the report of the successful completion of Test Transmission by the Station in compliance with the provisions of the National Broadcasting Commission Act, Cap. N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
“By this development, the agenda for a new MAPOLY is boosted as it will enhance students acquire necessary practical skills to make them not only functional but competitive in the industry upon graduation.”
Since its inception in 1980, the Mass Communication Department of MAPOLY has been producing seasoned professionals and qualified media practitioners. As a flagship department during the Ogun State Polytechnic era (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), it was the first among Nigerian polytechnics to be accredited to offer the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.
