The Anambra State Police Command says it will arraign a 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, on Wednesday, 19 November, for allegedly attacking a shopkeeper, abducting a 13-year-old girl and defiling her in Achina community, Aguata Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the suspect was arrested on 11 November by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (Gender Unit), Awka, with support from the local community security outfit.
Attack and abduction
According to the police, the incident took place on 29 October when the suspect allegedly stormed a shop in Umuezeiyi village with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe. He was said to have worn a red polo shirt fashioned into a face mask.
The suspect reportedly abducted a 13-year-old girl from the shop and took her into a nearby bush, where he “forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.” He also allegedly stole ₦30,000 from the shop before fleeing.
Recovered items

According to the police, Mr Umeugokwe, the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement after his arrest.
Exhibits recovered from him include a locally made single-barrel gun, a small axe and a red polo shirt used as a mask.
The police said that the suspect will be arraigned in court on Wednesday as part of the Command’s commitment to securing justice for the victim and ensuring accountability.
