Reporting Project
Education As a Vaccine (EVA)
In partnership with Education as a Vaccine (EVA) and with support from the Malala Fund, DevReporting implemented the #InvestigateOyoEducation Reporting Project to strengthen accountability and public engagement around girls' education in Oyo State.
The project focused on examining the critical factors that influence girls' enrollment, retention, and completion of secondary education — including education financing, citizen participation, governance, and the implementation of gender-responsive policies. Through rigorous, evidence-based journalism, the initiative uncovered systemic challenges while showcasing opportunities for improving access to quality education for girls across the state.
Between November 2025 and April 2026, the project supported the production of 14 investigative and in-depth reports, alongside a compelling short documentary. These stories were amplified through 12 media outlets, reaching diverse audiences and stimulating conversations around education accountability, environmental safety in schools, and barriers facing girls in the education system.

Following the publication of an investigation into pollution affecting pupils of HLA Grammar School in Ibadan, the Oyo State Government invited one of the project's reporters to a stakeholder engagement meeting convened to address the concerns raised — underscoring the power of public-interest journalism to influence decision-making, amplify community voices, and drive action on access to safe, quality education.
Project
Pro-Poor Development Media (PDM)
In partnership with the Pro-Poor Development Media (PDM) Network and with funding support from the African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC), DevReporting implemented the #ReportingUrbanChallenges Project to deepen public understanding of the complex urban issues shaping the lives of residents across Lagos.
The initiative supports investigative and solutions-focused journalism examining the city's most pressing development challenges — water, sanitation and hygiene, climate resilience, forced evictions, housing deficits, and other systemic pressures affecting vulnerable urban communities. By placing the lived experiences of residents at the centre of reporting, it amplifies voices often excluded from policy conversations.
A distinctive feature is the integration of ACRC's research, data, and analytical insights into journalistic storytelling — enabling reporters to combine rigorous evidence with human-centred narratives that document challenges and provide context, accountability, and pathways for informed action. Through this collaboration, DevReporting contributes to stronger public discourse on urban development and promotes evidence-based conversations that can inform policy, planning, and sustainable urban governance in Lagos.
