The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have introduced a one-off verification system for West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results used for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Under the arrangement, candidates will pay ₦4,000 once through JAMB’s designated Verification Service platform, while institutions will use the verified results supplied by JAMB without charging candidates again.

A joint statement issued by the agencies, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s head of public affairs, on behalf of the Head of National Office (HNO), Amos Dangut, said the new process will allow candidates to initiate verification from home or any internet-enabled location, eliminating the need to repeat the exercise for multiple admission-related purposes.

It added that the arrangement would preserve the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.

JOINT PRESS STATEMENT BY THE WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL (WAEC) AND THE JOINT ADMISSIONS AND MATRICULATION BOARD (JAMB) ON WASSCE O’ LEVEL RESULT VERIFICATION

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wish to inform the general public and all stakeholders regarding the recently introduced policy for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/O’Level) results. This initiative enables candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions to upload and verify their results conveniently from their homes or any internet-enabled location. Following a series of meetings and consultations, WAEC and JAMB have reached the following resolutions for the implementation of the Verification Service:

1) One-off result verification:

All candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through JAMB. The outcome of the verification will subsequently be made available to the institution to which the candidate seeks admission.

2) No duplicate verification charges:

Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission and other administrative purposes. Candidate shall not be required to pay for another verification.

3) Verification fee:

Candidates are to pay a one-time fee of Four Thousand Naira (₦4,000) only for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the designated platform, and not through their institutions of choice.

4) Authorisation to share verification outcomes:

WAEC has agreed to permit JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with the relevant tertiary institutions for the purpose of screening for the purpose stated in 2.

5) One verification, multiple uses:

The arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’ Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification.

This arrangement will significantly reduce the stress associated with repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, as candidates can initiate the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location. Candidates are therefore encouraged to take full advantage of this improved arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’ Level results through the JAMB provisioned Verification Service once and for all, knowing that the verified result can subsequently be utilized for the relevant admission processes.

This collaboration underscores the commitment of both WAEC and JAMB to putting the interests of candidates first, reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
